Join us at Volunteer Teaching Thailand! Many schools in our network do not have the resources to hire English teachers so International Volunteer Community Association (IVCA) helps schools with this process by implementing short-term and long-term volunteer projects.
Volunteer Teaching with IVCA is a powerful way to make a difference while exploring the Thai culture. Learning English is an invaluable skill for Thai people, creating opportunity and advancement for them. Furthering the student’s English language skills will provide greater opportunities for their education and future.
Our mission is to provide quality education to underprivileged children living in rural areas. We want to broaden the children’s horizons ethically, socially and academically, so that they can have a bright future.
Currently, IVCA is sending volunteer teachers to teach English with a “Learning by doing” theory, together with topics or content about peace, environmental preservation, good deeds, happiness and giving – all of this done with motivation for learning through activities such as sports, music, art and English language camps.
The Volunteer Teaching Project is focusing on activities with elementary-level students, ages approximately 6-12 years old. Our volunteers will be asked to help brainstorm in preparing curriculum and fun-filled activities which will educate and inspire the children. The important thing is our activities will open the minds of the children and help aid the school’s vision in education for future generations.
Living and working as a volunteer in this beautiful country with our local community and with other volunteers worldwide will allow you to get in touch with many different cultures by working and living together.
Every week, our staff will take you to see sights around many beautiful places in the southern province of Songkhla. You will enjoy it’s beautiful Old Town, it’s touching southern culture and relax on the gorgeous Samila Beach.
We Thais live our lives through the principle of respect for each other. Our people are kind and easy-going. The saying, “Mai pen ri“, Thai for “don’t worry”, is almost a way of life here. Volunteers will easily fit into our community and be welcomed wholeheartedly. If you ever get lost during your walk, be assured that the people around the area will know where you come from and help guide you back to the camp. You will experience true Thai hospitality.
Our accommodation are simple, built according to the traditional local Thai architectural style. The volunteers will share accommodation and together keep it clean and beautiful. Our facilities have the basic necessities for life and comfortably accommodate overseas volunteers.
Below is a simple activity schedule which details what volunteers will have to do in a week. However, all activities can be flexible to change.
After your arrival into Hatyai city, we will take all of our volunteers to the accommodation to get to know each other and set up a small welcome party. Typically, this will be on a Sunday and the next day we will start working on our schedule and begin orientation.
7:00 Breakfast
8:00 Arrive at school, participate in meetings and prepare curriculum and teaching activities
9:00 Teaching
12:00 Lunch
13:00 Teaching
14:30 Finish school and join after-school activities with the children
16:00 Arrive back at accommodation
Visit sample farms: In line with a project from the Queen of Thailand, this opportunity brings together knowledge about farming for living and allows the general people to study modern farming. Volunteers are able to learn about the sufficiency economy farm which focuses on dependency and living with nature. At this farm, volunteers can help with farm activities as well.
Visit temples: Most of Thai people practice Buddhism and each community has temples in the area. In some areas, Thais help each other by donating money or equipment to build a temple until they are beautifully completed to fruition. In the temples you’ll find exquisite Thai art and religious doctrines for volunteers to study as well.
Thailand is known for its natural beauty and tourist attractions. We are proud to bring volunteers to visit such popular places during the holidays. We offer free travel and service fees, but volunteers will be required to pay for food and admission fees to visit the tourist attractions themselves, though they are not expensive.
Samila Beach: Travel time is about 40 minutes from the accommodation. There are beautiful local beaches where volunteers can swim all day or visit popular places close by to try the local food. Visit Old Town site and other great attractions that the city of Songkhla has to offer.
Ton Nga Chang Waterfall: It is the most beautiful waterfall in Hatyai city and we try to take every volunteer here to visit and spend time swimming in nature and relaxing for a full day.
I was happy to be accepted as a volunteer at IVCA, where I could teach kids on global warming and learn about forest conservation. My stay at the Phadam camp was very interesting and I had a view of the Khlong Cham Rai Lake, which was amazing.
